Inflation and the Cost of Healing: Why Your Support Matters More Than Ever
You have probably felt it at the grocery store, at the gas pump, and in your monthly bills. Prices are rising almost everywhere, and therapy practices are not immune. At Walk Intuit, we believe in being honest with our community, so we want to share what inflation looks like for us, how we are working to keep care affordable, and how you can help.
Our Costa Mesa site at the OC Fairgrounds Equestrian Center is home to our nine therapy horses, along with the chickens who are part of our ecotherapy program. These animals are true partners in healing, and caring for them well is non-negotiable.
This upcoming year, the cost of care for each horse is going up by about $100 per month. Across our herd, that adds up to nearly $1,000 more every month just to keep our horses healthy, fed, and ready to support our clients.
- 9Therapy horses
- +$100Per horse, per month
- ~$1,000More every month
And it does not stop at the barn. Rent, insurance, supplies, and the everyday costs of running two therapy locations are all climbing too. Every mental health practice is navigating these same pressures right now.
How We Keep Care Within Reach
At Walk Intuit, our mission is to make trauma-informed healing accessible to everyone, especially those most impacted by adversity. Here is how we try to make that possible:
-
Self-pay clients help hold the door open
Our standard self-pay rates are comparable to private practice rates. When clients who are able to pay full fee choose Walk Intuit, they help make it possible for underserved community members to request sliding scale rates.
-
Our trainees give generously
Many of our sliding scale sessions are offered by graduate trainees who volunteer their time as part of their educational journey. Their dedication is a gift to our clients and to Orange County.
-
Donors fill the gap
The difference between what care costs and what our most vulnerable clients can pay is covered by people who believe in this work. That is where you come in. Become a donor.
What Makes Walk Intuit Different
Many people today can access therapy through a screen using standard talk therapy interventions, and that is a wonderful thing. But…
Some healing needs more than a talk therapy video call.
Our two Orange County locations offer in-person, hands-on therapies that strictly online therapy providers simply cannot offer.
We also invest deeply in our clinicians, which means even our clients using telehealth are getting more than standard talk therapy interventions. Every Walk Intuit clinician has access to six different supervision and training options each week, helping them meet their supervision needs while expanding their skills in trauma-informed care, including:
- Equine-assisted therapy
- Play therapy
- Sand tray therapy
- Art therapy
- Somatic therapy
- Internal Family Systems (IFS)
- EMDR
- Ecotherapy
- And more
This kind of training means that the most vulnerable members of our Orange County community can access truly life-changing mental health support, from clinicians who are equipped to meet them wherever they are.
If Our Rates Change This Year
We want to be upfront: if our prices go up this year, please know it is not because we are not trying. We are working hard every day to keep care affordable. It is because the cost of providing this kind of care is rising, and we need our community's help to keep doing it well.
